Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty and students were in the spotlight earlier this month, traveling to Phoenix, Ariz., for the 2024 American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Annual Meeting.
Three Binghamton researchers and two students presented their work to colleagues, were honored with awards for their achievements in pharmacy and received appointments to the ACCP National Student Advisory Committee.
Sarah Spinler - ACCP Clinical Practice Award
This career achievement award is given to an ACCP member who is making an outstanding contribution to clinical pharmacy practice. An outstanding contribution is judged by; the development of an innovative clinical pharmacy service; innovative documentation of the impact of clinical pharmacy services; leadership in the development of cost-effective clinical pharmacy services; sustained excellence in providing clinical pharmacy services; or a combination of those criteria.
"Receiving recognition for something I love, clinical practice impacting patient care, from the organization with the word 'Clinical' in it, is such an honor," said Spinler. "In my acceptance speech, I mentioned the teachers and practice experiences I had in my PharmD program at the University of Minnesota from outstanding pharmacist clinicians who inspired me to a life's work of teaching pharmacy students, pharmacists, residents and cardiologists about using drug therapy to optimize patient outcomes. Seeing those individuals go on to teach others is my reward."
Rachel Lucas - ACCP Research and Scholarship Program, Program Completion Certificate Presentation
"I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to complete the ACCP Research and Scholarship Program," said Lucas, a clinical assistant professor for pharmacy practice. "I received tools and guidance on how to conduct research using a variety of methodologies. I am excited to apply what I learned in this program to future research conducted at the Binghamton School of Pharmacy. The culmination of the program occurred with a poster presentation, which I was grateful to have had the opportunity to present at the ACCP Annual Meeting."
Each year, Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. recognizes outstanding peer reviewers at the ACCP Annual Meeting during the Awards and Recognition Ceremony and the PPI reception.
ACCP's official journals engage many peer reviewers who help determine which high-quality articles will be published. These reviewers provide an integral service to the journals by critically evaluating the submitted manuscripts. The best reviewers provide the highest-quality reviews consistently and in a timely manner. Kufel was recognized as one of five outstanding peer reviewers in 2024 for the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP), which is one of two official journals of ACCP. Kufel was recognized for his outstanding peer-reviewer contributions for the journal. He was recognized and received his award at the Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. reception on Monday, October 14th, 2024.
Jacob Govel (fourth-year PharmD student) - Appointed as Secretary of the ACCP National Student Advisory Committee.Govel is the first Binghamton University SOPPS student to be appointed to an ACCP committee.
"This was the first annual conference I ever attended and I enjoyed every moment!" said Heeral Naik. "Working with Dr. Sarah Spinler and Dr. Wes Kufel has been such a privilege for me, and on top of that, I also got an opportunity to present a poster on it at the meeting. Dr. Spinler guided me throughout the meeting on what seminars I should attend, she introduced me to new people-I am very grateful to have her as my teacher."
