Treasurer Smith Reunites Heartland Family Service with $12,000 During Check Presentation

DES MOINES - State Treasurer Roby Smith reunited Heartland Family Services with more than $12,000 through Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, the State's only legitimate program for reuniting lost funds with individuals and businesses in Iowa. "I am thrilled to reunite Heartland Family Service with this money to help them continue their mission and vision," said Smith. "This is a great reminder for all Iowa non-profits to search and see if they have unclaimed funds."

Heartland Family Service's mission is to strengthen individuals, families and communities through advocacy, education, counseling and support services. Marzia Puccioni Shields, Chief Development Officer, accepted the check on behalf of Heartland Family Service. "We are grateful for the money that we are getting from the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. This money will support the life-saving services we offer to our clients each year and will boost our efforts to help those in need and build strong communities."

"Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has returned over $374 million, but we are still holding $524 million waiting to be reunited," concluded Smith. "Search today. You never know what treasure is waiting to be found!"

Each year, millions of dollars are turned over after financial institutions and businesses lose contact with the owner. Examples include forgotten checking and savings accounts, stocks, uncashed checks, life insurance policies, utility refunds and safe deposit box contents.
