Launchpad to blast off Music Month in Big Spring Park Sept. 6-8

The countdown is on for Launchpad, the free 3-day music festival returning to Big Spring Park East in September as part of Huntsville Music Month.

The free festival kicks off on Friday, Sept. 6, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 8, with the first two nights featuring regional talent and the final night dedicated to Jazz in the Park-Huntsville.

"Launchpad showcases how dynamic the North Alabama music scene is," said Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella. "The Tennessee Valley has a wealth of talented artists and performers throughout the region and we are excited to have a few of them on the Launchpad stage."

The festival's opening night will feature headliner The Beastie Goys, a Huntsville-based Beastie Boys tribute band known for their packed shows at Mars Music Hall. Joining them on the Friday night lineup is R&B artist Mechi Rae along with the eclectic Soul Karnival.

Saturday features some of Alabama's buzziest groups, including headliner Carver Commodore and folk-indie duo The Burney Sisters, a touring band that recently relocated to Huntsville. The Silver Silos, another Huntsville-based band, will be the opening act on Saturday.

Sunday will feature an installment of the beloved Jazz in the Park-Huntsville series headlined by BK Jackson, with opening performances by Sherry Reeves and N'General.

Music starts at 6 p.m. each evening. Attendees can enjoy food from various trucks and bring their own alcoholic beverages in designated purple cups. Be sure to pack your lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes.
