Sheriff monitoring weather, wildfire conditions in county

With dry conditions and rising temperatures, county wildland fire experts are actively monitoring fire potential in Larimer County.

Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) Emergency Services Director Justin Whitesell gave an update on fire conditions Tuesday to the Board of Larimer County Commissioners at their weekly Administrative Matters meeting. Based on current conditions, fire restrictions are not recommended.

The Board of Larimer County Commissioners makes restriction decisions based on recommendations from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services division. LCSO wildfire experts monitor county fire conditions daily and provide recommendations based on scientific data and a collaborative approach.

While not currently recommending restrictions, Whitesell said the time to make a recommendation is likely approaching. He will give an update to the commissioners at their next Administrative Matters meeting on July 23.

The U.S. Forest Service Lands [USFS] within Larimer County is currently under fire restrictions and the public is advised to follow USFS rules when on these lands.
