Johnson Protects Ag Land from China

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) voted to pass the Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act to strengthen the review process for purchases of U.S. farmland by the Chinese Communist Party. China's growing investment in U.S. agricultural land has raised concerns about the security of our food supply. Johnson is a leader on this bill and has been vocal in his opposition to these purchases.

"Food security is national security, but China - one of our biggest adversaries - has significant access to our food supply," said Johnson. "I've been committed to tackling this issue for years, working to block these purchases and protect our supply chain from those who pose a threat."

The Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act would:

  1. Add the Secretary of Agriculture to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) for certain covered transactions, including agricultural land, agriculture biotechnology, and the agriculture industry - transportation, storage, and processing.
  2. Ensure USDA has a seat at the table to properly report and review transactions from the People's Republic of China, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
