Over 440 employees were able to connect with community partners and exhibitors representing services from the four wellness pillars - mental, physical, social, and spiritual wellness. The venetian dining room housed 59 booths offering a variety of resources and information about nutrition, fitness, preventative health care and screening, mental health programs, and veteran services.

Additionally, attendees observed live demonstrations of Reiki, chair massages, salt therapy, and more. One popular exhibit included a suspended massage chair that used variable vibrations to promote relaxation. The largest display that spurred discussion was the inflatable colon positioned at the entranceway for attendees to be able to walk through and learn about identifying polyps and good colon health.

This was the first local Wellness Fair event for the new Chief of Family and MWR David Sturman since moving to Battle Creek.

"I was greatly impressed by the attendance of employees and the amount of local health providers and wellness style vendors that were able to participate," Sturman said. "It can only be a positive for the whole community and our DLA employees when you are able to get that many local partners together in one setting. It was a great event!"

Many internal DLA programs were able to set up outreach booths and interact with employees as well, including Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, DLA Security & Emergency Services, and the safety office and VPP.

A DLA Human Resources benefits team was onsite to answer questions about health benefits and retirement. Other federal partners like the Employee Assistance Program and Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield were present to talk with employees about eligible services.

"This was a good opportunity to talk to employees," said DLA Emergency Management Specialist Robert Baker. "Our Medical Response Team was able to sign up new volunteers, and we were able to recruit new fire wardens too."

The annual DLA and Wellness Fair has become an increasingly popular event, with more vendors and exhibits every year. For more information about Battle Creek MWR's programs and services, please visit their website.
