Ambassador Mher Margaryan participated in the side event entitled “Civilizational values and the UN: Women’s Resilience and Empowerment”

On July 22, Ambassador Mher Margaryan participated in the side event entitled "Civilizational values and the UN: Women's Resilience and Empowerment", featuring a conversation with Ms. Lakshmi M Puri, Former ASG, UN and DED, UN Women and Author of the Book 'Swallowing the Sun'.

In his remarks, Mr. Margaryan, expressed appreciation for the tremendous efforts that Ms. Lakhsmi Puri had been taking over the years towards the protection of women's rights, their empowerment and resilience building, as well as mainstreaming gender equality issues.

The Permanent Representative of Armenia emphasized that even though the humanity had passed a long way in promoting and protecting women's rights, however, the world is still far away from achieving the aspiration of an equal opportunities for women and men. "In many countries, including in my own country Armenia, the potential of women's equal and meaningful participation in public life is yet to be fully realized. We need to recommit ourselves to creating a conducive environment for empowerment of women in decision-making processes, including in positions of leadership." - Ambassador Margaryan stated.

During the side event, Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the General Assembly, Mrs. Paula Narváez President of ECOSOC, Ms. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, USG and High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Ms. Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, Ms. Menissa Rambally, Ambassador of Saint Lucia to UN and Mr. Ravindra Raguttahalli, Ambassador of India delivered remarks.
