Dr. Liv Haselbach appointed to Transportation Research Board Committee

Dr. Liv Haselbach, executive director of the Lamar University Center for Resiliency, has joined a committee organized under the Transportation Research Board Consensus and Advisory Studies Division of the National Academies and focused on supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in addressing flood risk management.

This innovative committee will undertake a project called the Study on Furthering the Development and Use of Innovative Materials to assess how new technologies can aid the USACE's cause in responding to natural disasters. Materials, such as cutting-edge composites, will be tested and evaluated in their ability to mitigate flood risk and navigation, which have become increasingly more common.

These materials will be evaluated based on criteria including cost-effectiveness, reliability, resiliency in the face of increasingly aggressive environmental conditions, service life, and more. The committee's assessment of these technologies and materials will be critical to the USACE's operations and the future of the nation's water resources infrastructure.
