MATSUI STATEMENT ON RELEASE OF AMERICANS WRONGFULLY DETAINED IN RUSSIA

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement on the Biden-Harris Administration's securing of the release of Americans wrongfully detained in Russia.

"Today, we celebrate the return home of Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Alsu Kurmasheva, and Vladimir Kara-Murza," said Congresswoman Matsui. "After years of wrongful detainment and painful uncertainty, I am overjoyed that they will soon be reunited with their families and loved ones. This deal is a victory for diplomacy - fueled by the extraordinary efforts of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and many dedicated Americans working side by side with our allies and partners. I am deeply grateful for all of their hard work and for the advocacy of the families and Americans across the country who never gave up hope in the face of adversity. Today is a celebration of that unbreakable resolve and a reminder that we must continue to work tirelessly to bring all wrongfully detained Americans home."
