On August 10, 2024, State Police of Fonda arrested Syir R. Lewis, 26, of Albany, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the third degree, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

On August 10, 2024, at about 10:53 a.m. Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle at the entrance of the I-90 in Amsterdam, NY for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. The driver, who was later identified as Lewis, failed to comply, and a pursuit was initiated. While attempting to exit I-90 onto I-890 in Rotterdam, NY, Lewis lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and crashed into a sign. Lewis was taken into custody uninjured. Further investigation discovered a loaded handgun in Lewis's vehicle along with an unlawful amount of Cannabis. Both were seized. The firearm was later determined to have been reported stolen from Reidsville, NC.

Lewis was transported to SP Fonda, where he was processed. He was arraigned before the Amsterdam Town Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
