Negative Declaration
Suffolk County - The Town of Brookhaven, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Southern Mastic Beach Saltmarsh Restoration Project will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves restoring a 128 acre saltmarsh ecosystem and reconnecting it with a natural floodplain, while enhancing and connecting critical fish and wildlife habitat. Specifically, the action will promote native saltmarsh and maritime shrub habitats, remove invasive species, provide safe public access to the wetlands via a walkway, and develop nature-based solutions to buffer future flooding for upland residential communities by minimizing storm surge and allowing flood water to recede faster. The project area in Mastic Beach is bounded by Gooseberry Road to the north, the confluence of Pattersqaush Creek and Narrow Bay to the east, Narrow Bay to the south, and Peconic Drive to the west in the Town of Brookhaven, New York.
