Latest Update on Hurricane Beryl

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The City of Corpus Christi has received the latest update on Hurricane Beryl from the National Weather Service. Recent trajectory models have shown that Hurricane Beryl has shifted northward, increasing the likelihood of impact on the Southern Texas coast. Beryl is currently moving West-North-West 18 mph and is expected to reach the Yucatan Peninsula late tonight into early Friday morning.

Storm Beryl is expected to intensify in the coming days, posing a greater risk of stronger tropical storm force winds, coastal flooding, and the potential development of tornadoes. The earliest arrival of tropical-storm-force winds could be Sunday afternoon. Dangerous rip currents and tidal runup along the coast are expected today through the weekend, making swimming conditions hazardous.

Additionally, there is potential for widespread heavy rain, especially on Sunday and Monday, which increases the threat of flash floods and river floods area-wide. The threat of isolated tornadoes also exists, particularly from late Sunday through Monday.

The City urges residents in low-lying beach areas and flood-prone areas to take additional precautions following the latest weather predictions. It is crucial for residents to remain informed and monitor news and weather updates closely. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures now by securing outdoor belongings and preparing an emergency kit to be storm ready.

Due to forecasted coastal flooding from Hurricane Beryl, overnight camping at all city-maintained Gulf beaches is prohibited Saturday, July 6, through Monday, July 8.

The City would also like to remind residents of the sandbag distribution event at the City Service Center, located at 5352 Ayers Street, tomorrow, Friday, July 5. The event will occur at 8:00 a.m. and continue until all available bags have been given out.
