City of Palmdale Announces Fight Fentanyl Summer Program for Antelope Valley Youth

PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale, through the Fight Fentanyl Antelope Valley campaign, is excited to announce a special three-day program aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl among the youth of Antelope Valley. The Fight Fentanyl Summer Program is scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday, July 23-25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, located at 3850 E. Ave. S., Palmdale and the Lancaster Community Center, located at 44611 Yucca Ave., Lancaster.

This free and impactful program is open to students in grades 6 through 12 and aims to equip them with essential skills to resist drugs, manage personal and social challenges and build healthy relationships.

"We are deeply committed to protecting our youth from the dangers of fentanyl and other substances," said Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop. "This program is a proactive step towards educating our young people and giving them tools to make safe, healthy choices."

Each day of the program will feature activities and sessions focused on three key areas: Personal Self-Management Skills, where students will learn healthy decision-making, stress reduction and anger management; Social Skills, where they will improve communication and relationship-building; and Drug Resistance Skills, where they will understand the consequences of substance use, risk-taking and media influence.

A morning snack and lunch will be provided each day to ensure all participants have the energy and focus needed to engage fully in the program.

"Our goal is to empower students with the knowledge and skills to resist peer pressure and the dangerous appeal of drugs, especially to prevent any further fentanyl deaths among the youth," said Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. "By working together as a community, we can make a real difference in the lives of our young people and ensure they develop skills to be successful leaders of tomorrow."
