Troopers respond to fatal crash in Otsego County

On October 1, 2024, at approximately 4:11 p.m., New York State Police at Oneonta, Morris Fire, Morris EMS and Otsego County EMS responded to a single vehicle crash on State Highway 23 in the town of Morris.

An investigation at the scene determined that the operator of the vehicle attempted to avoid a deer and went off the roadway, crashing into a fence post then went into a ditch off Bourne Hill Road.

The driver of the vehicle, Michael Welsh, age 65 of Cooperstown, NY did not survive. The passenger, Margaret Welsh, age 74 of Cooperstown, NY was transported to Bassett Hospital by Morris EMS for non-life-threatening injuries.
