Matthew Goetz, MD
Congratulations to Matthew Goetz, MD, of HSR's Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation and Policy (CSHIIP)! Dr. Goetz has received the VA Society of Practitioners of Infectious Diseases (VASPID) 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication, leadership, and scholarship that have advanced the infectious disease field within VA hospitals for four decades.
As Chief of the Infectious Diseases section at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System since 1995, Dr. Goetz has been recognized with the Federal Executive Board Public Service Award and the VA Mark Wolcott Award for Excellence in Clinical Care Leadership and has also received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. His initiatives on antimicrobial stewardship, tuberculosis, and HIV care have shaped national policy as he has served on the VA Infectious Disease Field Advisory Board, the VA Antimicrobial Stewardship Task Force, and the VASPID.
Dr. Goetz has authored more than 250 publications and has taught and mentored countless individuals, guiding and supporting the careers of several generations of infectious disease clinicians and investigators who serve in important local, regional, and national positions throughout VA's healthcare system.
With the Lifetime Achievement Award, the VASPID celebrates Dr. Goetz for his "profound and lasting impact on the health and well-being of Veterans and the broader community" and his "enduring commitment to care, advocacy, mentorship, and scholarship in the service of Veterans."
