The City of Richmond Hill proudly announces the upcoming display of the Traveling Vietnam Wall and the Cost of Freedom Tribute, honoring our nation's heroes.
The tribute will be escorted from Homes2Suites (4784 US-17, Richmond Hill, GA 31324) to JF Gregory Park (521 Cedar St, Richmond Hill, GA 31324) on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 at 10 am. Community volunteers, including American Legion Post 27 and VFW Post 7331, will help assemble the wall.
This impactful tribute will be open to the public during daylight hours in JF Gregory Park from Sunday, Nov. 10th, 2024, through Wednesday, Nov. 13th, 2024.
"Remembering and respecting our veterans for the selfless sacrifices they have made is one of our greatest responsibilities as citizens," said Mayor Russ Carpenter. "This tribute allows residents an opportunity to pay respects to our nation's fallen heroes and appreciate all those who have answered the call to service."
The Traveling Vietnam Wall stands 8 feet tall and spans 360 feet, creating a profound experience that educates and honors those who served. The tribute also includes the Cost of Freedom Tribute, which honors service members who served in conflicts such as WWI, WWII, Korea, Desert Storm, Somalia, 9/11, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
The tribute will be available for viewing during the City of Richmond Hill's Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11th, 2024 at 11 am in JF Gregory Park. Special guests Rep. Ron Stephens and representatives from American Legion Post 27 and VFW Post 7331 will be in attendance. The guest speaker for the event will be Lieutenant Colonel Sean M. Hollars, Battallion Commander, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment.
Community members are encouraged to be part of this meaningful event by volunteering.
