Congressman Gallego, Mayor Gallego Cheer Nearly $45 Million in Head Start Funding Coming to Arizona

WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) announced $44,910,969 is coming to the City of Phoenix from the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Head Start.

"Regardless of your ZIP Code or income level, every Arizona family deserves access to affordable child care and early education. Head Start helps provide that and so much more," said Rep. Gallego. "From nutrition programs and health screenings to economic mobility counseling, Head Start seeks to engage and support the whole family. I am extremely proud to announce today's funding which will help thousands of Arizona families get ahead."

"As we continue working to ensure Phoenix remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family, I'm grateful to our Congressional delegation, including Representative Gallego, for their advocacy for the Head Start program," Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. "Thanks to this new funding, the City will be able to help more families in our community raise strong, healthy, and successful children for many years to come."

Investing in Arizona's children is a top priority for Rep. Gallego. Today's announcement builds on a combined roughly $60 million he championed over the course of last year.

Administered by the Department of Health and Human Services, Head Start aims to promote school readiness and provide children with a strong foundation for success in later years. It offers early learning, health, nutrition, and family support to ensure children from disadvantaged backgrounds have the necessary tools to thrive.

Head Start grants specifically support the recruitment of qualified teachers, the expansion of comprehensive early childhood education programs, and research and implementation of innovative approaches to promote child development and well-being.
