The City of St. Petersburg Celebrates National Black Business Month this August

August 2, 2024 - The City of St. Petersburg is celebrating National Black Business Month this August, recognizing the significant contributions of Black-owned businesses to the community's economic and cultural growth. Throughout the month, the City's Office of Supplier Diversity and The Greenhouse will host a series of events and initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting Black entrepreneurs.

Additionally, The Greenhouse will be doing a Shop Your Block Business Walk to bring essential resources directly to local businesses.

"With Equitable Development. Arts, and Business Opportunities as one of Mayor Kenneth T. Welch's Pillars for Progress, we're pleased to recognize National Black Business Month in St. Petersburg, which is home to several Black-owned businesses," said Carl Lavender, the City's Chief Equity Officer. "The success of any business is important to the bottom line for our local economy, and we urge all consumers to support and purchase from our diverse business community."

Build St. Pete: A Construction Trade Show
Tuesday, August 6 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The Coliseum

Hosted by the City's Office of Supplier Diversity, Build St. Pete aims to connect small construction businesses with resources and contracting opportunities in St. Pete. Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a matchmaking experience with businesses and local agencies. Empower Your Enterprise
Friday, August 16 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The City's Office of Supplier Diversity will partner with theFoundation for a Healthy St. Pete to host Empower Your Enterprise. This workshop is designed to support small, minority-owned businesses in St. Pete by helping them gain access to crucial capital to finance and build their business capacity. Additionally, the workshop will give tools on how to generate smarter financial practices that lead to wealth-building and family financial planning. Neighborhood Commercial Business Expo
August 23, 2024, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Greenhouse will host this market-style event featuring businesses that have participated in the City's South St. Petersburg CRA Microfund Program or the Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Program.
