Trick-or-treating hours are scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31.
The Elgin Police Department asks parents to follow the safety recommendations below:
-
Limit your child's trick-or-treating to the hours of 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31.
-
Young children should be accompanied by their parents or another responsible adult.
-
One member of each group should carry a lightened flashlight, at dusk or afterwards.
-
Make sure costumes do not limit mobility and have no visibility obstructions.
-
Use reflective tape or stickers on costumes and bags and wear light-colored costumes to help children see and be seen.
-
Always walk on the sidewalk and cross the street at intersections.
-
Bring candy and goodies home and have parents check them before eating any of them.
Residents should keep their porch and exterior lights on during the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. trick-or-treating hours and only serve wrapped candy. Residents are also reminded to close and lock their garage and car doors to reduce the opportunity for theft and vandalism.
Have a safe Halloween!
