Registration for Alabama’s Hunting 101 Workshops Now Open

For those who didn't grow up with hunting as part of their family experience, Alabama's Adult Mentored Hunting (AMH) program teaches all the skills needed to put wild game on the dinner table and help start new traditions. Getting started in the AMH program is as simple as signing up for a Hunting 101 workshop. Registration is currently open.

The first workshop of the 2024-2025 season will take place near Birmingham at the William R. Ireland-Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on September 21. Additional Hunting 101 workshops this fall include September 28 near Decatur and Huntsville at Swan Creek WMA, October 5 near Mobile at Upper Delta WMA, and October 12 near Scottsboro and Guntersville at Skyline WMA. Designed by the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) for anyone with little to no hunting experience, the workshops take place at various WMAs throughout the state and provide participants with an opportunity to learn hunting basics, firearm safety and handling, where to hunt, which licenses are needed, hunting rules and regulations, and the equipment needed.

"Our Hunting 101 workshops are open to anyone with an interest in learning how to hunt," said Brandon Holloway, AMH Coordinator. "We hope participants walk away from the experience with the skills and confidence needed to have a successful hunt on their own or with a hunting partner."

To attend a workshop, participants must be at least 19 years of age and possess a valid driver's license. Attending a Hunting 101 workshop is required to become eligible to participate in a multi-day Adult Mentored Hunt. Workshop attendees will be notified by email if they have been randomly selected for a mentored hunting opportunity.
