Sympathy to the Family and Former Colleagues of Chuck Joiner, Emeritus Associate Professor

JONESBORO - The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Dr. Charles (Chuck) Joiner of Jonesboro, who died Sept. 2.

After earning a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Tennessee and a Ph.D. in social welfare from Washington University, Joiner spent his career in social work. He was dedicated to helping those who needed his compassionate care and teaching students to do the same.

In 1987 Joiner joined the A-State faculty where he taught for 19 years and became the first chair of the Department of Social Work. He was named emeritus associate professor of social work upon his retirement in 2006.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Teddlie-Joiner, two sons, a daughter, eight siblings, four step-sons, and numerous other family members. His complete obituary is online.

A visitation and memorial service will be Friday, Sept. 13. That evening the clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library on will be darkened in memorial tribute to Joiner for his service and contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University.
