A new dog park is coming to Land Park. Help decide the location

After surveying the community earlier this summer, the Department of Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment (YPCE) invites residents to a drop-in style open house to decide the location for a new dog park at William Land Park.

The open house will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 6-7:15 p.m. at the Belle Cooledge Library (5600 South Land Park Dr.)

Staff will discuss the survey findings from over 1,600 residents about dog parks in the Land Park and Curtis Park areas. A summary of the survey results can be found here.

"The open house is a chance for the community to provide input and help ensure the new dog park meets the needs of Sacramento's four-legged friends and their owners, along with all other park users" said Jason Wiesemann, YPCE's park planning and development services manager. "As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance community spaces, we're excited to plan a dedicated dog park within Land Park that will offer a safe, enjoyable place for dogs to exercise, socialize, and play off-leash."

At the meeting, residents will:

• Discuss survey outcomes: Results from the recent dog park survey revealed valuable insights into the features and amenities most important to over 1,600 Sacramento residents.
• Weigh pros and cons of top options: Review layouts of the two leading locations-Freeport and 14th Avenue or the Land Park panhandle-that received the most community support.
• Provide input and ideas: Share feedback with staff on safety features, park layout, amenities, and other key design elements.
• Select your favorite option: Residents will vote for their preferred location, and the option with the most support will become Sacramento's newest dog park.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo of their dog for a "Best in Bark" photo board. Dogs aren't allowed inside the library, but are welcomed outside during the open house.

The City will proceed with a new dog park in William Land Park and look into developing a new dog park in Curtis Park in the future when funding becomes available.
