Mayor Bowser to Host 13th Annual Senior Symposium

(Washington, DC) - On Tuesday, June 25 at 10 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) will host the Mayor's 13th Annual Senior Symposium, which will include two expert panels, a resource fair, and veteran's clinic.

The theme of this year's symposium, which will be held at Ballou High School, is elder abuse awareness. Attendees will receive information about how to protect yourself and loved ones from scams and fraud targeting elders. The resource fair will include information and resources on housing, health, wellness, and a range of services to promote quality of life for seniors. Additionally, the event will include a veteran's clinic to provide senior veterans with support on public benefits and access to legal services, in partnership with AARP DC and the Legal Counsel for the Elderly.

The District is committed to supporting seniors with a range of programs and resources dedicated to safety and well-being. To report elder abuse, please reach out to DACL's Adult Protective Services team by calling the 24/7 hotline at (202) 541-3950. The Adult Protective Services team can provide information, answer questions, and connect residents with experts.

DACL operates seven senior centers across the District, where residents can beat the heat this summer as well as take advantage of daily activities, group lunches, exercise equipment, computer labs, and a friendly atmosphere to stay healthy, connected, and thriving. For more information on senior center locations, hours, and events, please click here.

All District residents aged 18 and older are encouraged to take Age-Friendly DC's Livability Survey. The survey, available online and at all DC Public Library locations, will help inform the 2024-2028 Age-Friendly DC strategic plan. The goal of Age-Friendly DC is to make the District an easier place to live, work, and play as we all grow older.
