Evelyn Community Primary School, Prescot, was honoured at the Educate Awards on Friday, 15 November.

The primary school won the Outstanding Commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) category, sponsored by All About STEM.

Evelyn Community Primary School has made huge strides towards embedding STEM within its curriculum, and most recently opened a fully operational STEM laboratory for all children to access. The space enables pupils to immersive themselves in the world of STEM, exploring new themes and accessing state-of-the-art equipment.

In addition, the primary school has implemented a uniquely designed ARCS curriculum - a real life creative skills-based curriculum, which enables pupils to make real-life applications and connections to learning and experiences beyond the classroom.

Judges commented on Evelyn Community Primary School's 'exceptional entry that showcases a profound commitment to embedding STEM throughout the curriculum'.

The judges also praised the school's innovative development of the science hub and forward-thinking approach that prepares students for 'a dynamic future'.

Cllr David Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Children's Services at Knowsley Council, said: "Evelyn Community Primary School are worthy winners of this award, having worked so hard to ensure their pupils have access to the kind of learning experiences that really enhance their understanding and interest in STEM subjects.

"It's a testament to all those at the school, who are clearly passionate about STEM and understand the benefits to young people of a solid grounding in these important subjects. I'm sure we can expect plenty of Evelyn Community Primary pupils to go on to have great success in science, technology, engineering or mathematical related careers."

Now in its thirteenth year, the Educate Awards features 21 diverse categories and shines a spotlight on all aspects of education from sports and arts to literacy and the environment.
