Renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)

Brazil welcomes today's renewal by the United Nations Security Council of the mandate for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for an additional year. The continuation of UNIFIL reflects the importance and necessity of achieving comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East.

The Brazilian government considers that the full implementation of the mission's mandate is crucial for preventing the escalation of conflict in southern Lebanon and northern Israel, as well as for contributing to regional stability. Brazil reiterates its call for an end to hostilities and urges all parties involved to exercise the utmost restraint along the "Blue Line" that separates Lebanon and Israel.

Brazil led the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force (MTF) from 2011 to 2021 and deployed nearly 4,000 military personnel to the mission during that period. Currently, Brazil has 11 military personnel in UNIFIL.
