A bite of the big apple

Business students in the University of Missouri's Cornell Leadership Program (CLP) recently returned from the annual Tigers on Wall Street trip, a weeklong immersion into New York's financial district. For nearly 20 years, a group of students from the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business has traveled to the Big Apple to participate in this experience-centered learning opportunity.

The trip allows them to network with Mizzou alumni and industry professionals while gaining insights into careers within the financial sector. This year, students toured several firms, including Park Madison Partners, Apollo, Meta, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, UpLift, CD&R, TPG and The Carlyle Group. They were even on the floor for the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange/TradeMas. Throughout the week, students engaged with alumni, industry leaders and friends of the Tiger community, gaining valuable knowledge and connections.

"CLP students had the opportunity to question, and learn from, business leaders regarding trends in private equity and investment banking and business strategy from companies such as Meta and Uplift," said Mary Beth Marrs, B.S.I.E. '87, M.B.A. '95, the director of CLP and coordinator of the annual trip. "Experience-centered opportunities such as these are at the heart of how the Trulaske College of Business does so well."

The Tigers on Wall Street program began in 2008, thanks to the efforts of Meredith Aslin Imber, B.S.B.A. '02, managing director of The Carlyle Group in New York.
