November Free Yard Waste To Help Tackle Storm Recovery

Seattle, we've weathered the big storm, but its impact is still being felt. Power outages continue in some areas of the city and crews are working tirelessly to restore service. Meanwhile, fallen leaves and debris are littering yards and walkways, and clogging storm drains, increasing the risk of neighborhood flooding.

Here's how you can help:

• Clear storm drains: If it's safe, remove leaves and debris near your home to prevent flooding. Wear gloves and be cautious of traffic. Watch this short video to learn how.
• Dispose of yard waste: Through November 30, customers billed for food and yard waste collection can set out up to 10 extra bags of yard waste per collection day-for free.

For any yard waste that does not fit in the cart supplied by the City, you can use:

• A 32-gallon can with handles. Label your can "yard waste," and fill it loosely, so it will empty easily.
• Paper or compostable lawn and leaf bags.
• Bundles, tied with fiber twine, up to 4 feet long by 2 feet in diameter. Please do not use wire, nylon cording, or plastic banding.
