HONOLULU, Sept. 6, 2024 - Hawaiian Electric crews will repair equipment and replace utility poles in Manoa on Tuesday, Sept. 10, impacting traffic on Oahu Avenue and on Dole Street near the University of Hawaii campus.

The lane closures are as follows:

  • Oahu Ave. partially closed in both directions from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the five-way stop and Olopua Street while crews replace a cross arm and a utility pole. Only local traffic allowed; all other motorists to be rerouted.
  • Dole St. Ewa-bound lanes partially closed near the University of Hawaii's East-West Center with traffic contraflowed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. while crews replace electrical equipment and a utility pole. The sidewalk and bike lane in the work area will be closed. Bus routes will not be affected.

Message boards have been posted to alert motorists of the upcoming work. Special duty police and flagmen will provide onsite traffic control. Safety signs, traffic cones and arrow boards will mark the work areas and direct motorists to open traveling lanes.

Area residents should note that contractors for Hawaiian Electric are performing trench work and installing new underground conduit along Oahu Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 13, except the weekend. The work requires partial closure of the southbound lane of Oahu Ave. just past Olopua, with traffic contraflowed.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas if possible or drive with caution when approaching and passing the work zones and expect traffic delays.
