Pallone Secures $1 Million to Expand the Minnie B. Veal Community Center, Enhancing Services for Seniors

EDISON, NJ - Congressman Pallone has secured $1 million in federal community project funding to expand the Minnie B. Veal Community Center, transforming it into a comprehensive hub that will better serve the city's senior residents. This expansion is set to provide a significant boost to the entire township, creating a central location where seniors can engage in wellness programs, social gatherings, educational programing and classes, and recreational activities, all under one roof.

"The funding we've secured for the Minnie B. Veal Community Center will truly make a difference in the lives of Edison's seniors," said Congressman Pallone. "This expansion isn't just about adding more space-it's about creating a welcoming place where our seniors can feel supported and connected. With easier access to essential services, and the opportunity to learn new skills and form lasting friendships, we're helping to build a community that values and uplifts its older residents."

Currently, MBVCC is not equipped to meet the needs of seniors. The new development will also introduce vital technology education programs, empowering older residents with the skills needed to navigate computers, smartphones, and other digital tools. Edison's only dedicated senior center, constructed in the 1990s, is in the southeast part of the city and struggles to serve the growing senior population due to its limited space and location. Many seniors in the northern sections of the township must drive over eight miles through heavy traffic to reach the center, making it difficult for them to access essential services.

"I thank Congressman Pallone for securing $1 million for the expansion of Edison's Minnie B. Veal Community Center." said Mayor Sam Joshi. "Our cherished senior population will benefit immensely from the addition of more space, services, and engagement opportunities. With this funding, this central location can ensure the continued enrichment within our senior community."

The funding for this project was requested by Congressman Pallone in the Fiscal Year 2025 annual spending bill. Each year, members of the U.S. House may request community funding projects in their district to direct federal resources toward the biggest needs in their communities.
