MoDOT to shift lanes on Route 79 bridges at the railroad starting Friday night, September 20

ST. CHARLES COUNTY - Drivers traveling on the Route 79 bridge north of Interstate 70 can expect shifted lanes during the second stage of a bridge rehabilitation project starting at 9 p.m., Friday, September 20. All work is weather permitting.

During this stage, the Route 79 bridge over the railroad will have two northbound lanes and one southbound lane open. During this closure, the southbound Route 79 on ramp from East Terra Lane will be closed. Motorists can either continue on the North Service Road to northbound Route 79 and exit at Salt River Road to southbound Route 79 or motorists can continue on East Terra Lane to T.R. Hughes Boulevard.

During this work, crews will work on the inside northbound and southbound lanes and the shoulder of the Route 79 bridge over the railroad bridge to the north. The ramp from the North Service Road to northbound Route 79 will open and the entrance road from East Terra Lane to southbound Route 79 will close.

The Route 79 bridge over I-70 will continue to have two northbound lanes and one southbound lane closed. Motorists will be detoured to continue east on I-70 to the Mid Rivers Mall Drive exit and turn around, continue westbound on I-70, and exit at Route 79. This closure is expected to remain until mid-October.

All work is expected to be completed December 2024. This work is part of an I-70 bridge rehabilitation program of 12 bridges along Interstate 70 in St. Charles County: https://www.modot.org/70-bridge-rehabilitation-st-charles
