BISMARCK, N.D. - The U.S. Department of Transportation announced an award of $1 million through the Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) to the Grand Forks International Airport. Specifically, this award will assist the airport with revenue guarantee, start-up costs, ground handling offsets and associated marketing plan to recruit, initiate, and support new nonstop service between Grand Forks and Denver International Airport via SkyWest Airlines.
"The Grand Forks International Airport is an essential transportation hub for the northern Red River Valley," said U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure. "A region can only grow with quality air service and quality air service can only grow with a quality airport"
SCASDP provides funding to help small communities attract new air service and address airfare issues. In July, the North Dakota delegation wrote a letter in support of Grand Forks International Airport's application. In their advocacy, the delegation highlighted the application's strong support from the local community. It also stressed the benefits of access to more nonstop service options for existing businesses and travelers in the Red River Valley.
