UPDATE: Special Brush Collection Concludes

UPDATE (July 2): We did it! Between Republic crews, our third-party contractor T.F.R. Enterprises, and Town staff, we have completed storm debris collection. Over the course of four weeks, we picked up over 7,900 cubic yards of brush (imagine a gigantic pile of almost 8,000 washing machines - that's a TON of brush)! To accomplish that monumental task, T.F.R. deployed three huge trucks to our town and worked around the clock, including on weekends. Our Public Works, Parks and Rec, and Utilities crews helped pick up smaller piles and accessed harder-to-navigate streets that T.F.R. couldn't reach. In total, Town staff dedicated more than 1,600 hours to storm debris collection. So we want to give a huge shoutout to our Public Works, Fire, Parks and Rec, Utilities, Code, Pay Roll, GIS, Customer Relations, and Communications employees for all of their hard work to get this done as quickly as possible.

We also dumped almost all of the debris at Living Earth, a green material recycler, which means we kept it out of the landfill. Thank you, Living Earth, for working with us on such short notice to make that happen!

If you have debris from the late May storms that was out on the curb for collection in early June but was missed, please let us know by calling Customer Relations at 972.539.SERV (7378). As a reminder, moving forward, all brush must be cut, bundled, tied, and less than 4 cubic yards so that Republic can collect it on your regular trash day. You can learn more about Republic's bulk and brush collection service at www.flowermound.gov/brushcollection.

Thank you, again, for your patience over the last month as we worked hard to get this done!

UPDATE (June 25): We have some good news to share! Our contracted crews anticipate finishing all storm debris collection this week. They are working over the next couple of days in central Flower Mound, around the Cross Timbers Conservation District. They have collected almost everything east of Shiloh Road, except for a few gated communities and hard-to-navigate areas. Crews will be returning to those spots over the next few days. They have also completed their routes in western Flower Mound, through the Canyon Falls, Trailwood, and Roanoke Hills neighborhoods.

Crews will not be returning to areas that have already been completed, so if you feel your storm debris was missed, please call our Customer Relations team at 972.539.SERV (7378) so that we can make sure it's collected. As a reminder, only brush from the storms in late May is being collected by our contractor; if you've placed out new brush that is green, or for any brush moving forward, it must be cut, bundled, tied, and less than 4 cubic yards so that Republic can collect it on your regular trash day. You can learn more about Republic's bulk and brush collection service at www.flowermound.gov/brushcollection.

Again, thank you so much for your patience. We've collected more than 6,300 cubic yards (1,550 tons) so far, which is no small task!

UPDATE (June 18): Our third-party contractor is hard at work moving through town, but some of these piles are BIG, and each stop takes time. Generally, crews are working east to west, using claw trucks to pick up those large piles, and they're trying to get to you as quickly as possible. A couple quick updates:

  • If you cut and bundled your pile to Republic's specifications, your pile will be picked up by Republic crews on your normal collection day, and not by our third-party contractor. We've asked Republic crews not to tag any piles for not meeting their specifications, but if you receive a tag, please disregard it. Your pile will be collected by our contractor.
  • Our contractor is doing the majority of their dumping at Living Earth, which means the piles they collect must only contain tree trimmings or brush. If your pile has other items mixed in (fencing, bagged leaves, etc.), it would be helpful if you could place those items in a separate pile, away from the brush. Combined piles will have to be collected by a different crew at a later date.
  • If possible, please try to avoid parking vehicles too close to your pile. As you can see, the trucks being used in this special collection have large claws. Crews cannot use the claw if your pile is obstructed by or too close to vehicles, trees, or other objects. Your pile will still be collected, but it will take crews longer to get to it and will delay their operations.

As of end of day on June 17, more than 1,900 cubic yards of storm debris had been collected. We expect collection to continue into next week, including operations over the weekend, so please continue to be patient as crews work to get to you!

UPDATE (June 14): You have been so patient with us, but we're asking you to be patient just a little longer! There was more storm debris than anticipated and crews have struggled to keep up. The Town has hired a third-party contractor that is mobilizing today and plans to work throughout the next week to collect all the remaining storm debris placed at the curb.

This third-party contractor, T.F.R. Enterprises, will start full operations on June 15, and will work east to west. They will continue collection operations throughout the week of June 17 and hope to have everything picked up within a week and a half, weather dependent.

A couple reminders:

  • Please do not place brush piles behind or too close to parked vehicles. Please also try to avoid placing brush underneath trees. The trucks being used in this special collection have large claws. Crews cannot use the claw if your pile is obstructed by, underneath, or too close to vehicles, trees, or other objects.
  • Similarly, please do not place your trash and recycling carts in front of or behind your brush pile, as doing so can make it difficult for any of your waste to be collected.
  • If you live on an alleyway, where your trash and recycling is normally collected, you must place your uncut and unbundled piles in front of your home. The special collection trucks are too large for alleyways. If you want to place items in the alleyway, they must be cut and bundled per the regular brush collection guidelines because they will be collected by Republic's smaller trucks.

Thank you for your understanding as we work as quickly as possible to get this done!

UPDATE (June 7): Still have brush sitting at your curb? Don't worry! Republic crews are working as quickly as possible, but as anticipated, collection is taking some time. Crews will be continuing special brush collection next week in order to get to everything. But there are some ways you can help:

  • Please do not place brush piles behind or too close to parked vehicles. One of the trucks being used in this special collection has a large claw to pick up larger loads. Crews cannot use the claw if your pile is obstructed by or too close to vehicles or other objects.
  • Similarly, please do not place your trash and recycling carts in front of or behind your brush pile, as doing so can make it difficult for any of your waste to be collected.

Thank you for your patience as we continue these cleanup efforts!

ORIGINAL POST (May 30): Thank you for being patient with us while we worked with Republic to come up with a residential storm debris collection plan! Here's what you need to know:

  • The special collection will begin on June 3. Collection will follow the regular trash routes, so you must place your debris out ahead of your collection day that week.
  • If your debris isn't collected on your day, don't panic! It may take Republic multiple days to complete each route, depending on volume.
  • You can place out tree branches at the curb unbundled and uncut. Please try to keep the pile organized, as best you can, so crews can be efficient.
  • Tree branches should be piled separately from fencing and similar debris.
  • If you live on an alleyway, where your trash and recycling is normally collected, you must place your uncut and unbundled piles in front of your home. The special collection trucks are too large for alleyways. If you want to place items in the alleyway, they must be cut and bundled per the regular brush collection guidelines because they will be collected by the smaller brush collection trucks.
  • This special collection is only for storm debris from residential customers. Commercial customers, including apartments, should use their paid commercial service to remove storm debris. If you hire a tree service to trim your trees, a roofer to perform roof repairs or replacement, or a company to replace or repair your fence, those contractors should dispose of that debris.
  • Please do not add any items beyond storm debris to this special collection, as that will increase the amount of time it takes Republic employees to complete this service, therefore increasing the cost of this service to the Town.
  • If you plan on hauling off your debris, you may make one trip with up to 10 cubic yards of waste once per month to the Camelot Landfill (580 Huffines Blvd., Lewisville) for free. Loads in excess of 10 cubic yards (which is roughly one truck bed and small trailer) will be subject to additional fees. Find more information about the landfill disposal process at www.flower-mound.com/landfill. You can also take tree trimmings or brush to green material recycler Living Earth (3901 Haynes Rd., Flower Mound). You are allowed to bring five cubic yards per trip for free. Learn more about that process at www.flower-mound.com/livingearth.

Of course, you also still have the option of using the regular weekly bulk service, if you'd like to dispose of your debris sooner. If you use this option, branches must be cut into sections no more than 4 feet long and tied into bundles weighing less than 50 pounds each. This bundled debris can be placed next to your trash and recycling carts on your regular collection day.

Please be safe while clearing your property!
