Uruguay National Day

On behalf of the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Uruguay on the 199th anniversary of Uruguay's independence.

Through 157 years of diplomatic relations, we have built a deep partnership underpinned by our shared commitment to democracy, human rights, and shared prosperity. Our people share friendly ties strengthened through academic and professional exchanges, tourism, and culture.

In the last year, Uruguay has demonstrated principled leadership in the hemisphere and around the world, standing for democracy, the rule of law, and peace. As a leader in the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, Uruguay has shown its entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, connecting investors and mentors with aspiring entrepreneurs through its Angel Investor Network to build mutual prosperity across the hemisphere.

In the coming year, when Uruguay will celebrate its bicentennial milestone, we look forward to celebrating Uruguay's unique history and significant achievements, as well as bringing our countries and people even closer together.
