Seton Hall Equips New Pirates with Essential Technology

As part of Pirate Adventure, the University's new student orientation, the Department of Information Technology's Mobile Computing Program distributed over 1,400 laptops. The Mobile Computing Program, a cornerstone of the University's commitment to digital literacy since 1997, ensures that every member of the learning community has the technology and tools necessary for academic success. It enables students to engage with course materials, collaborate with peers, and participate in both hybrid and remote learning environments, thereby enriching the educational experience and fostering positive learning outcomes across all programs.

This year, the Department of Information Technology introduced a fresh and engaging approach to the laptop distribution process. Departing from the traditional method of pick-up and training, the department transformed the event into a celebration of the evolution of technology on campus. A display highlighted the history of laptops since the inception of the Mobile Computing Program, drawing attention to the remarkable advancements in technology.

Students had the chance to participate in a raffle by guessing the weight of the first laptop distributed in the program, which tipped the scales at over 6 pounds-quite the contrast to today's sleek 2.6-pound models. The event also included briefings on the importance of the program, details on where to access service and support, and information about job opportunities within the IT department.
