Project Description

This project funds the construction of a new 5-ft.-wide sidewalk with pedestrian facilities along the south side of Poindexter Street at the I-464 overpass. The new sidewalk will connect on the west end to the existing sidewalk at the signal for the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge and will connect on the east end to the existing sidewalk at the intersection of Poindexter Street and Bainbridge Boulevard. This project will also include the installation of new pedestrian railing on the bridge over I-464 and the installation of new streetlights along the project limits.

There are no existing sidewalks nor dedicated pedestrian facilities, requiring pedestrians must navigate along the shoulder of the roadway and utilize footpaths along the side of the road which are not ADA accessible nor compliant. The purpose of this project is to provide safe pedestrian facilities on Poindexter Street from Bainbridge Boulevard, along the Interstate 464 Overpass to the connecting sidewalk at the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge.
