NOPD Investigating Homicide in Fifth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this afternoon (August 4, 2024) at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and St. Claude Avenue, in which a man was killed and a woman was injured.

NOPD Fifth District Officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by cutting around 3:58 p.m. at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female victim in a wheelchair with multiple stab wounds. They also found an adult male with a gunshot wound unresponsive on the sidewalk.

The female was transported to the hospital by EMS, and the male was pronounced deceased on scene.

Through further investigation, detectives determined the deceased male reportedly first attacked the woman unprovoked, repeatedly stabbing her.

A security guard from a nearby business intervened and shot the male attacker once.

The security guard was detained for questioning but has since been released.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will identify the decedent and official cause of death upon completion of the autopsy and notification of the family.
