Governor Newsom Appoints Michelle Radmand Chief Deputy Director of California Arts Council

SACRAMENTO, CA - Michelle Radmand has been named the Chief Deputy Director of the California Arts Council, the state arts agency announced today. Radmand was appointed August 30 by Governor Newsom.

Reporting directly to Executive Director Danielle Brazell, Radmand will promote the Arts Council's mission to advance California through arts and creativity by way of the agency's grant programs, services, and initiatives.

"Both our staff and Council offer the warmest welcome to Michelle in taking on this new role," said Executive Director Danielle Brazell. "We are delighted to have someone with her background and experience help lead our efforts to bolster California's creative economy and equitably support its workforce." As Chief Deputy Director, Radmand will provide high-level strategic and policy advice to advance the complex functions of all aspects of the agency.

Radmand served as Deputy Director of the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) within the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) from June 2021 through August 2024.

Previously, Radmand was appointed by Governor Newsom and served as the Northern California Regional Advisor, Small Business Specialist, for CalOSBA from 2020 to 2021. As the Regional Advisor, Radmand strengthened the small business ecosystem from the Bay Area to the Oregon border and to the Eastern border. During her time at CalOSBA, she managed all programs including the Capital Infusion Program, Technical Assistance Program, Technical Assistance Expansion Program totaling $23 million in state funds to support California's federally designated small business technical assistance centers expand their services to underserved communities and small business groups.

Radmand holds a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in project management from California Southern University, and a bachelor's degree in political science with an emphasis in international relations from the University of California, Davis.

"As a former dancer and professional makeup artist in Sacramento, I have a deep love for the arts and remain closely tied to the industry. I admire the arts and cultural sectors' unwavering talent, grit, tenacity, and passion. I am beyond honored to be able to serve on behalf of the talented artists, organizations who provide critical support to the field, and to advance the mission of the agency."

Chief Deputy Director Radmand's first official day will be Tuesday, September 10.
