Reps. Kim Schofield and Rhonda Burnough Join College Park in Celebrating Purple Heart City Designation, Honoring Military Sacrifice and Service

ATLANTA - State Representatives Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) and Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale) recently joined College Park officials and community members to celebrate the city's adoption of the Purple Heart City designation, honoring the bravery and sacrifices of military veterans and active service members who were wounded or lost their lives in service.

"This designation is more than just a title; it is a symbol of College Park's deep respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by our military heroes," said Rep. Schofield. "By becoming a Purple Heart City, College Park demonstrates its commitment to honoring our veterans and ensuring that their bravery and dedication are never forgotten."

"Last night, we fulfilled our mission of ensuring that all seven cities in Clayton County are designated as Purple Heart Cities," said Rep. Burnough. "We are proud to honor our Purple Heart recipients and recognize their extraordinary sacrifices."

The Purple Heart City designation is awarded to cities that demonstrate a commitment to acknowledging and honoring the contributions of the nation's veterans and military personnel. College Park's designation was approved by Mayor Bianca Motley Broom, Mayor Pro Tempore Roderick Gay and Councilmembers Tracie Arnold, Joe Carn and Jamelle McKenzie.

The Purple Heart is a distinguished military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in action. Recipients of the Purple Heart are recognized for their sacrifices made in service to their country, and the award serves as a symbol of their courage and dedication.
