Police found that King County Sheriff's Deputies and Burien Police were investigating the scene just one block south in their jurisdiction. A blood trail led from their scene to Seattle's jurisdiction. A spent shell casing was recovered as evidence.

While investigating, police responded to an additional report of a man attempting to break into a 55-year-old woman's home in the 8800 block of 16th Avenue Southwest. She was unharmed.
