Kaptur Statement on the Passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson LeePress Release

Toledo, OH - Tonight, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement on the passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18):

"My heart extends to the family, friends, and constituents of our dear, indefatigable, omnipresent colleague, Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas. What an amazingly faithful sister and Representative was she. It is hard to conceive her essence has transformed to the supernatural. Her life on earth packed a century and a half of effort into her 7+ decades. She never stopped.

"Her persevering voice for justice at home and abroad was tireless. Whether the concern involved America's forgotten children or intractable global conflicts, Congresswoman Lee was present and engaged. She was tireless in her service. She elevated her voice, her travel schedule, and her being to building a more just and democratic world. In my last conversation with her, she told me she was walking in faith. I know she looked toward to the rising sun.

"May memories of her living works and accomplishments to address the most intractable challenges to the human spirit inspire our citizenry and those whose lives she touched on every continent. It has been a high privilege to serve with her. Rest in peace my dear friend Sheila."
