Sen. Ossoff Expanding Science and Engineering Education Opportunities in Middle Georgia

Fort Valley, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is helping strengthen science and engineering programs for students at Fort Valley State University.

Today, Sen. Ossoff is delivering $265,220 in Federal resources to Fort Valley State University (FVSU), which plans to use the Federal funding to help more undergraduate and K-12 students in the area pursue careers in the biotechnology or STEM disciplines through field trips, internship opportunities, science mentoring at public schools, and more.

The funding, which comes through the U.S. Department of Education's Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program, aims to strengthen STEM programs at HBCUs and other minority service institutions.

"I will never stop working on behalf of Georgia's HBCUs," Sen. Ossoff said. "These new resources will help more students at Fort Valley State University and across Middle Georgia prepare for careers in science, engineering, and math."

Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen opportunities for students and families in Macon and Middle Georgia.

Earlier this year, Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock announced an $80 million Federal investment to convert a shuttered manufacturing facility in Fort Valley into a state-of-the-art electric school bus manufacturing facility.

Last year, Sen. Ossoff delivered $4 million, with bipartisan support in Congress, to help FVSU establish a poultry science major and purchase new equipment for their students - providing a state-of-the-art learning environment for students interested in poultry careers.

In 2023, Sen. Ossoff championed efforts in the U.S. Senate to the pass the bipartisan JOBS Act to help more students access and afford job training programs.

In 2022, Sen. Ossoff and Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04)'s bipartisan Cybersecurity Opportunity Actbecame law, which created the "Dr. David Satcher Cybersecurity Education Grant Program," to expand cybersecurity training programs at HBCUs, tribal institutions, minority-serving institutions, and other colleges and universities that serve a high proportion of Pell Grant recipients.

Also in 2022, Sen. Ossoff delivered $430,000 to expand Fort Valley's CareConnect facility, which allowed CareConnect to add an additional 1,000 square feet to the existing 1,800 square foot building. These upgrades were later completed in late 2023.
