OSHR Director to Donate School Supplies to Lexington City Schools in Support of the Governor's School Supply Drive

State Human Resources Director Barbara Gibson will visit South Lexington School and Developmental Center at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17 to donate school supplies for Lexington City Schools.

State Human Resources Director Barbara Gibson will visit South Lexington School and Developmental Center at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17 to donate school supplies for Lexington City Schools.

Employees from the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) collected 21 boxes of requested school supplies to donate to Lexington City Schools. Supplies included spiral notebooks, paper, crayons, pencils, cleaning supplies, facial tissues and other needed items.

"Governor Cooper proclaimed 2024 as the Year of Public Schools and we are honored to support his initiative here in Lexington," said Director Gibson. "My staff and I enjoyed coming together to support the hardworking educators and students of this district. We hope that the supplies we collected will make an impact on Lexington City Schools and help the students on their academic journeys."

Lexington City Schools, located in Davidson County, has 3,089 students and 433 employees throughout the district's seven schools, according to the district's website. The district is also home to two Innovation Labs at Lexington Middle School and Lexington Senior High School, where students can participate in eight high-tech accelerator programs. Program topics include cybersecurity, data analytics, software development and more. There are currently 269 state employees working in Davidson County.

Following a donation drop-off with Lexington City Schools leadership, Director Gibson will visit with and read My Magical Choices by Becky Cummings, the bestselling book which discusses how greatness comes from positive actions to a group of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
