Town of Babylon - Oak Beach 4kV Cable Replacement

Negative Declaration

Suffolk County - The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (NYS OPRHP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Oak Beach 4kV Cable Replacement will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by the NYS OPRHP to grant an easement and permit for PSEG to replace an existing cable, which has experienced multiple faults, between the western end of Oak Beach and Cedar Beach. The replacement cable will be installed via horizontal directional drill adjacent to the existing cable to be abandoned in place. Nine splice boxes and two new switchgears will be installed along the cable route, which will also serve as drill pit locations. Finally, drill pits will also occur at the location of existing infrastructure, at each end of the cable and at the location of an existing switchgear to remain. A single pole, located southeast of Galley West, will be replaced in kind, not to increase in height by more than ten feet, and serve as the riser pole for the replaced cable. A small section of cable will be installed via open trench to the riser pole. Drill pits for this portion of the replacement will occur at the northern and southern terminus of Galley West. No work will occur within a wetland. The project is located at Ocean Parkway in the Town of Babylon, New York.
