IFC Vice President for Africa, Sérgio Pimenta, to Visit Angola

Luanda, Angola, August 16, 2024 - Sérgio Pimenta, IFC's Vice President for Africa, will visit Angola from August 19 to 20 to highlight IFC's commitment to supporting private sector development and job creation in the country, including in the agribusiness, IT, energy, and transport sectors.

Accompanied by senior members of IFC's leadership team for Africa, including Roland Yameogo the new Country Manager for Angola, Mr. Pimenta will co-host a workshop to discuss Angola's development priorities and public-private partnership opportunities. The workshop is being organized by Angola's Ministry of Planning and is hosted by Minister of Economy and Planning, H.E. Victor Hugo Guilherme. Invited speakers include Angola's Minister of State for Economic Coordination, H.E. José de Lima Massano; Minister of Finance, H.E Vera Daves; Minister of Transport, H.E. Ricardo D'Abreu; Minister of Energy and Water, H.E. João Borges; Minister of Health, H.E. Sílvia Lutucuta; Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, H.E. Carlos Alberto; and CEO of the Carrinho Group, Nelson Carrinho.

Mr. Pimenta will also meet with private sector and development partners in Angola. His discussions over the two days will focus on how IFC can deepen its support for Angola's economic development in line with the government's strategy to promote growth and diversify the economy.

IFC's committed investment portfolio in Angola currently stands at US$68.5 million (the equivalent of 60.93 billion Angolan Kwanza), with a focus on manufacturing, agribusiness and increasing the availability of financial services in the country, particularly to smaller businesses. IFC's advisory portfolio stands at US$5.4 million across four projects.

About Sérgio Pimenta
IFC Vice President for Africa

Sérgio Pimenta is IFC's Vice President for Africa. In this capacity, he is in charge of all advisory and investment operations in a region with a committed portfolio of $17 billion as of July 31, 2024, and almost 800 staff working to expand the private sector's role in addressing urgent development challenges in the financial, manufacturing, agribusiness and services, and infrastructure industries.

Previously, Mr. Pimenta was Director and Global Head of Industry-Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services at IFC, managing all operations in these sectors worldwide. Mr. Pimenta also served for three years as IFC's Regional Director responsible for East Asia and the Pacific, based in Hong Kong.

Earlier in his career at IFC, Mr. Pimenta held senior managerial positions in the manufacturing, agribusiness, and services sectors in the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East and North Africa, and Washington, DC.

Prior to joining the World Bank Group through its Young Professionals Program in 1996, Mr. Pimenta worked for the Treasury Department of the French Ministry of Finance, as well as for Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP).

A Portuguese and French national, Mr. Pimenta holds an engineering degree from the École Polytechnique, Paris, and a post-graduate degree from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris.
