At about 11:00 PM, Officers were patrolling the area of Polk St. towards Bunker Hill St. when they observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign while traveling at a speed greater than reasonable. As Officers attempted to catch up to the speeding vehicle, they observed the vehicle fail to stop at another stop sign before Officers eventually were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Chelsea St. and Vine St.
Officers approached the vehicle, identified the operator and passenger, and conducted an investigation into the occupants and the vehicle itself. During the investigation, Officers determined that a pat-frisk of the occupants for weapons was necessary and issued exit orders to both.
As Officers attempted to pat-frisk the passenger of the vehicle, he placed his hands inside the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. Officers attempted to move his hands but he resisted and attempted to flee. After a brief struggle Officers were able to place him in custody and located a firearm inside the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt.
Officers recovered the firearm and determined it to be a black, 9mm Ruger Max-9, with one (1) round in the chamber and nine (9) rounds in the magazine.
The 17-year-old juvenile was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Charlestown District Court for the charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest.
The operator of the vehicle was issued a Mass Uniform Citation for two violations of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign and Speeding.
