Taking to the skies: Girls in Aviation Day is at Sheltair this Saturday

Exploring the world of aviation has never been so cool! This year's annual Girls in Aviation Dayevent is a chance for young people of all ages and genders to learn about aviation, meet female aviators and explore the world of flight.

The Tampa Bay Chapter of Women in Aviation International designed the free event to empower future aviation professionals and includes interactive exhibits, aircraft displays, hands-on activities and inspiring speakers.

Doors are open at Sheltair Tampa, 4751 Jim Walter Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 21. All ages and genders are welcome to attend. The U.S. Coast Guard will perform a flyover at 11 a.m.

The keynote speakers at this year's Girls in Aviation Day will be Sarah Koehler and Danielle Fuller, both pilots of Tampa General Hospital's Aeromed team.

"This annual event is always such a great opportunity for kids interested in aviation," said Marilyn Gauthier, TPA's Senior Manager of General Aviation. "For those who want to explore the industry and experience it firsthand, this Girls in Aviation Day event is the perfect chance to do so."

Sponsors include the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, which operates TPA and three smaller general aviation airports, Alaska Airlines, Hertz and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Parking is available near Hangar 5 at Sheltair Tampa. While the event is free, organizers ask that you register for admission. Click here for free tickets.
