Teri Bump of American Campus Communities Receives ACUHO-I Foundation’s 2024 Parthenon Award
Bump Recognized for Her Enduring Impact on the Student Housing Industry as ACC's VP of University Relations

On June 22, the ACUHO-I Foundation announced Teri Bump, American Campus Communities' VP of University Relations, as one of the six recipients of its 2024 Parthenon Awards. Being inducted into the Foundation's Parthenon Society is among the most prestigious honors a student housing professional can receive. The award recognizes supreme achievement, service, leadership and contributions to the industry.
Like the other honorees, Teri was completely surprised by the emotional unveiling of this honor at ACUHO-I's Campus Home. LIVE! conference and expo in Milwaukee. Many of Teri's ACC colleagues, family members and friends were there to celebrate and pay tribute to her outstanding legacy.
"Teri has made an incredible impact on our industry through her strategic insights, deep relationships and commitment to helping people develop and grow. This well-deserved honor reflects the respect she's earned from housing and university leaders nationwide," said James Wilhelm, ACC's chief development officer, and Teri's supervisor.
Champions nominate candidates for the Parthenon Society each year. To be considered, candidates must have contributed 10 years of service to the housing, residential life, or affiliated profession and five years of service at the regional or international level of ACUHO-I.
"I'm honored to be celebrated among so many of my friends and icons in student housing. I'm immensely grateful to our ACC leadership, who consistently encourage and support my university engagement, allowing us to contribute to the professional development of our clients and partners," said Teri.
Teri's expertise in building partnerships between universities and housing providers is unmatched. Before joining ACC in 2001, she served in student affairs at Boston University, Oberlin College, the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Texas Southern University, Alfred University, and SUNY Oswego. Teri received her bachelor's in sociology from SUNY Oswego and her master's in college student development from Alfred University.
Teri has worked with ACUHO-I and other higher education associations as a speaker, fundraiser and student advocate. She presents nationally on university trends and issues and has delivered educational sessions at APPA, NASPA, ACUHO-I, NACUBO, NIRSA, ACPA, NACAS, and ACE Spectrum. Teri is a past ACUHO-I, ACPA and NACAS Foundation Board trustee and served on the LeaderShape Board of Directors. In 2007, she was awarded the ACUHO-I Corporate Friend Award for service to the association. She received the Business Partner of the Year Award at the 2007 national NACAS conference and the 2010 ACPA Business Partner of the Year Award. She has been honored as a 2017 ACPA Diamond Honoree and 2018 Pillar of the Professions for NASPA. In addition, she has recently joined the inaugural cohort of Senior Fellows for the Aspen Index.
