Join Woodland’s Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 21

The City of Woodland's Sustainability Advisory Committee invites you to join a Coastal Cleanup Day volunteer event on Saturday, September 21 from 9 AM - noon at the Farmers Central Ditch in the Spring Lake Area.

California Coastal Cleanup Day, led by the California Coastal Commission, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In 1993, California Coastal Cleanup Day was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "largest garbage collection" ever organized, with over 50,000 volunteers. Since then, Coastal Cleanup Day continued to grow, steadily expanding inland. Since much of the plastic pollution in the ocean and on the coast travels there from city streets and inland waterways, cleanups in communities like Woodland prevent trash from eventually becoming marine debris.

As volunteers pick up trash from California's coasts and inland waterways, they also record the types of trash they find. This data provides policy makers and the public with the information needed to make important decisions. You can learn more about the statewide effort here.

Woodland's Sustainability Advisory Committee, in partnership with the local Sierra Club, will sponsor a cleanup this Saturday morning. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring gloves as we anticipate entering and exiting the Farmers Central Ditch area and collecting various forms of debris.
