City of Milton Fire Department Issues July 4th Fireworks Safety and Regulations Reminder

MILTON, FL - As Independence Day approaches, the City of Milton Fire Department encourages all residents to celebrate safely while adhering to Florida's fireworks regulations.

Fireworks Use Regulations in Florida (per Florida Statute 791):

  • Sparklers are legal for use year-round.
  • Higher-grade fireworks, such as those that explode or shoot into the air, are restricted to use only on July 4 (Independence Day) and from December 31 to January 1 (New Year's Eve/Day).
  • Fireworks include any object that explodes, propels itself, projects an object into the air, or contains more than 100 grams of spark-producing compound.
  • Unauthorized use can result in a $1,000 fine or up to one year in jail.
  • Using fireworks outside the permitted dates can result in fines up to $1,000 or imprisonment for up to one year. Signing a waiver at the point of purchase does not protect the user from legal consequences.

Safety Concerns:

Fire Chief John E. Reble emphasizes, "We encourage our community to save money and prioritize safety this holiday season."
