CAPIS Morning Note – 8/1/24: Stocks Continue To Rally Into Jobs Friday

Overnight Summary: The S&P 500 closed Wednesday higher by 1.58% at 5522.30 from Tuesday lower by -0.50%. The overnight high was hit at 5,596.50 at 1:55 a.m. EDT and the low was hit at 5558.50 at 4:40 a.m. EDT. The overnight range is 38 points. The current price is 5582.25 at 7:15 a.m. EDT higher by +24.25 points.

Executive Summary: Yesterday the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (FOMC) came down from the mountain to update us on their current thinking. The are probably now more focused on employment than on inflation. As such, easing can occur if the economy shows signs of weakness before the next FOMC meeting in September. There is no August meeting. Stocks are modestly higher this morning. META which is the new name for Facebook knocked it out of the park with their earnings.
  • June Construction Spending and July ISM Manufacturing Index as well as weekly Jobless Claims are due out today.
